Once your College Station, TX realtor has helped you find your dream home, it's time to celebrate! You will want to kick things off right in your new home by throwing a party. After all, you deserve a celebration after all the hard work, planning and heavy lifting.

Throwing the perfect move-in party is also a great way to settle into your new surroundings and prepare you for many happy years in your new home. Check out this list of the top four tips for planning a move-in party that you, your friends and family will really enjoy.

#1 – Keep It Relaxed and Informal

Let's face it, moving can be a tiring experience. The last thing you want to do after a big move is to spend weeks planning a large, formal occasion. You don't need a four-course meal and evening wear to have a great move-in party. Keep things low-key and informal.

A backyard barbecue is perfect for this kind of event. After all, Texans love their BBQ so you will have no problem getting guests to show up! You can save on costs and planning by doing things potluck style. Ask each guest to bring one item, such as hamburger buns, chips, plates or ice. That way, you can simply provide the space and the party will come to you.

#2 – Invite Your Neighbors

Now is the perfect time to get to know your new neighbors. A few days before your party, pay a visit to some of the folks in your neighborhood. Knock on their doors to hand them an invitation in person or leave an invitation on their doorstep or in their mailbox. This is a perfect opportunity to expand your social circle while also getting introduced to your neighbors.

After all, the best neighborhood is one that is built on community and friendship. The beginning of many new friendships can start at your move-in party. You might even pick up a few new recipes! And it never hurts to be on good terms with your neighbors since you never know when you might have to borrow a yard tool or hire a babysitter.

#3 – Have A Simple Theme

You can keep your party low-key and inexpensive while still taking the time to make it memorable. You can draw on your interests to come up with a simple theme for the party. Does your family love football? Here in Texas, football always makes for a good theme. Decorate with your favorite team's colors and memorabilia. Music is another good choice. Make it an all-Beatles night or crank up the dance music for an enjoyable evening. It doesn't take much to make your party stand out.

#4 – Thank The People Who Helped You

If you had help from friends and family during your move (and you should have), they should definitely be on your guest list. Pay them back for all their hard work with delicious snacks and a cold beverage. Make sure to make the rounds and thank each person individually. It will really make them feel appreciated and it could even convince them to help you in the future.

If you hire a moving company, get a large thank-you card and have the guests sign it. Send it to the moving company after the party to let them know they helped you have a great occasion.
