Thanksgiving is one of the biggest traveling times of the year. However, with a little planning and research, your travels can be headache-free. Whether you and your family are planning to drive or fly from your home in College Station, Texas to another city or state, you will want to ensure the whole trip goes smoothly. The following Thanksgiving traveling tips are sure to help.

Research Flight Options

Many choose to forgo the family drive to grandma's house for Thanksgiving. The airlines know this well and many times raise the rates for holiday travel. Not to worry, there are several places you can go online to research airfare prices before you purchase. For example, there are sites like Expedia, Kayak, Orbitz, and Hotwire that offer visitors discounted rates on flights and even hotels and car rentals. You can also search for cheap flights on Google and Yahoo. Looking at your options can save you quite a bit from paying full from the airline or ticket counter.

Follow the Weather

If you plan to drive, be sure to keep an eye on what the weather is going to be like. If it is supposed to be freezing, iced or snowed over, you will want to get your vehicle ready for such traveling. For example, you will need to have your car winterized at your local mechanic's shop. In addition, you may need to purchase winter driving tires and possibly even snow chains depending on where you are traveling.

Share your Itinerary

Before you head out on your Thanksgiving journey, be sure loved ones and friends know how, when and where you plan to be traveling. If you and your family are flying, you will receive an itinerary that will have any stops listed along with your departure and arrival times and dates. If you are driving, you will need to create your own. Include any possible stops and the exact route you plan to take. This way if anything were to happen, there will be a route to look for you. Winter driving conditions can easily cause a slip off the roadways. Folks knowing your travel route can help you should you become stranded or slip off the road.
